Fire doors are one of the most critical elements of passive fire protection used to slow down the spread of fire, however they remain a significant area of neglect.

 

Many people do not understand their responsibilities when it comes to fire safety, causing regular prosecutions, injuries and even deaths. According to the Home Office, there were 321 fire-related fatalities in England in 2017. However, in the event of a fire, the fire door must perform its prime purpose - to protect lives and offer protection to the building and buildings that surround it.

How to tell that a door is a fire door?

Research carried out by IronmongeryDirect, revealed that almost 1 in 2 people do not know how to identify a fire door. 70% also admitted that they wouldn't know who to contact if they noticed a problem with a fire door. Fire Door Safety Week have provided a helpful 5 Step Check to determine if a door is a fire door. If you think the building you're living in, working in or visiting has a faulty fire door, don't walk by. Report it to whoever manages or owns the building.
