The Hyatt Regency Amala Spa go Keyless

With KitLock to secure their changing room lockers and improve guest satisfaction.

The Hyatt Regency is a modern, four-star hotel situated in the heart of Birmingham’s city centre. Its prime location attracts a mix of both business and leisure clientele. Each of the hotel’s 319 rooms has floorto-ceiling windows commanding impressive panoramic views over the city centre.

The hotel provides a wide range of luxury services guaranteed to satisfy the needs of the most discerning guests. The quality and attention to detail in the rooms and public areas are exactly what you’d expect from a luxury hotel – its urban Amala Spa and leisure club are no exception. With state-of-the-art therapy rooms, guests can escape city life and relax with treatments or enjoy the 16-metre indoor pool and well equipped gym.

Letting The Side Down

Unfortunately there was one area of the hotel where guests had noticed a problem. While using the facilities at the spa and leisure club, there were limited numbers of working lockers available for them to secure their belongings.

Assistant spa manager, Kerry Bond, explains:

“We have approximately 75 lockers in both the male and female changing rooms, but a large majority were ‘out of action’ due to the high numbers of missing locker keys. We have such a high turnover of guests, many accidentally taking locker keys home, that it became a constant issue. At one point there were only 10 working lockers left in the men’s changing room, so we knew something had to be done.”

The KitLock Solution

Kerry contacted Codelocks to ask about its range of keyless digital locker locks. KitLock is a robust, easy to use electronic locking system specifically designed for securing lockers. Guests enter a four-digit code on the keypad, ‘lock and go’ without having to use keys, fobs or tokens. To open the locker again, guests simply re-enter their code. The code is then automatically erased, leaving the locker free for the next user. If a guest forgets his or her code, a member of staff can open the locker using a technician code.

It didn’t take long for the Hyatt Birmingham’s engineering team to upgrade the lockers with 150 KitLock KL1000 Classic locks. Spa and leisure club employees were shown how to use and programme the locks and information stickers were fitted to the inside of the locker doors so that guests could follow the instructions.

“Guests are much happier now that there are more lockers available to use and we’ve also had many comments on how smart the locks look; much more in keeping with the quality and service expected from our hotel.”
