Unlocking the potential of digital door locks; what to expect from Codelocks in 2013
As we begin to wrap up 2012, we thought we'd take a look back at the year and get a sneak peak at what's in store from our business in 2013 by asking our managing director Grant Macdonald a few questions. Here is what he had to say:How was business in 2012?
Despite the tough market conditions, it's been another very busy year for us at Codelocks. Keyless access control is becoming more and more widespread, as people choose to replace the traditional lock and key with a more convenient method of access. As a result we are seeing an increase in demand for our digital keypad locks. As organisations look for more effective methods of access control, we also continue to see more and more people upgrade from single-code mechanical locks
to the multi-code, multi-function electronic locks
.Do you think this trend will continue?
Most definitely. Year on year the electronic capability of keyless entry locks becomes increasingly sophisticated. Compared to key operated locks, digital electronic locks offer so much more in terms of convenience and control. There are so many applications where our electronic coded locks can provide more manageable levels of access control, without the hassle of using keys. Technology continues to drive improvements in functionality, and as a result electronic locks look set to become even easier to use and control in the future. What functions do you see emerging in 2013?
We'll start to see technology simplifying the way that electronic push-button locks are programmed. For example, one area of development will be in the generation and management of codes remotely. This will have huge potential in applications where access codes need to be changed on a very regular basis and be time sensitive like, for example, the holiday home rental market or for accessing service areas within buildings.
Another area we see gaining popularity is built-in audit trail facilities. In the event of a suspected breech of access, data detailing who has been through the door and when could prove very valuable. At the moment, audit trail facilities are often complex programmes added to locks at the time of manufacture and take a while to be set up and programmed. Developments to simplify this process and the way in which the data is accessed will see audit trail functions used more widely and to greater effect. Will there be new products from Codelocks in 2013?
Yes, we are very excited about 2013 as we plan to introduce several new products during the year. We will release details via our blog and website as the year progresses, so watch this space!
