World Expo 2020 represents a huge opportunity in the Middle East

With the United Arab Emirates Government reportedly investing $7 billion on infrastructure in the run up to the World Expo 2020 in Dubai, suppliers to the country's building trade are no doubt excited by the prospect the investment will bring. The six-month long exhibition will attract millions of visitors to the region and as a result, a huge building program - including the venue itself, a massive 483-hectare site on the edge of Dubai, hotels and public transport networks - is well underway.

New Opportunities

With so many building projects planned, the region presents a significant opportunity for suppliers of architectural ironmongery and many are gearing up to serve this market as it grows over the next four years. And we are no exception. Last year we appointed Advanced German Products (A.G.P.) as our new authorised distributor for the region.

We caught up with sales manager, Colin Campbell, to explain how the move will help us increase our share of the region's access control market:

"United Arab Emirates is a very attractive market area for us right now and with a such a large number of hotels being built, demand for our products is strong. We are supplying many operators in the leisure industry with our KitLock digital locker locks, and demand for door access control is also increasing. We are now working with an authorised distributor so that we can carry stock in the region to help meet this demand.

It was important for us to find a partner with an established business network - one with region-specific market knowledge and the necessary infrastructure in place to provide on-the-ground support. Working with A.G.P. gives us access to a team of people we can train to provide customers with sales and technical support, and installation and maintenance if required.

We are integrating advanced technology into many of our products to improve their capabilities. Working with A.G.P will enable us to better communicate these developments to the market. New features such as audit trail and remote code generation, although easy to use, require more investment from Codelocks to support our customers. We have put a training plan in place to make sure our customers are more than adequately serviced. Longer term, as the capability of our door products continues to develop, we'll work with the A.G.P. team to focus on some key vertical markets with new and innovative solutions to access control."
